Who Was St. Francis de Sales? · Salesianum School Meet the original Salesian gentleman.

Saint Francis de Sales is Salesianum’s Patron Saint — and the man who inspired our school’s name, House of Sales.

Respected for his sanctity, the French bishop was declared a Doctor of the Church for his wisdom, and known as the Gentleman Saint for his “little virtues” of gentleness, humility, and patience.

St. Francis de Sales wrote prolifically, including Introduction to the Devout Life and thousands of letters offering guidance to those seeking spiritual direction. His wisdom continues to echo across our campus, where his words are displayed as a lasting example for young men today. Inspired by his teachings, the Direction of Intention centers our thoughts, words, and actions on God throughout the day and unites generations of Salesianum students, alumni, and families in the shared call to Live Jesus.
